Education

Our children are our most precious resource. We need to build our investment in our children’s education here in District 14 so that they can compete for jobs and additional education in an ever increasingly competitive job market.

Statistics show that more than 16% of District 14 adults 25 years and older do not have a high school diploma. We need to nurture our students’ growth so as to enable them to realize their educational and professional dreams. To accomplish that goal, we need to recruit and retain the best teachers and staff possible and make available the most cutting-edge resources in our schools to advance students’ achievements.

The current trend under The Gold Dome is to roll back teacher’s pensions while increasing the pensions for the members of the House and Senate. To the extent our Georgia lawmakers care about the prosperity and growth of our children, they need to put aside their own financial aspirations and dedicate themselves to establishing a sound financial future for the educational needs of our children. In order to attract businesses that will offer well-paying jobs in our district, we must first aspire to develop first-rate schools to entice businesses to settle into our cities and towns.

Gun Sense and Responsibility

Firearms have been a cornerstone of our nation’s freedoms since our constitution was ratified in 1788. Firearms are an essential component of protecting ourselves, our families, and our businesses. The recent tragedy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania serves as a cruel reminder that some of our citizens should not be able to purchase guns due to a lack of respect for the awesome responsibility required to be a sensible gun owner.

After all of the horrific shootings from Parkland, to Sandy Hook, to Las Vegas, and others, we still have not acted to restrict gun sales to people who lack the mental capacity to act with the utmost respect for the safety of others. Responsible people should be allowed to purchase guns that suit their needs for self-defense and sportsmanship. No gun owner need fear that we are trying to take away their constitutional right to bear arms.

A sensible gun policy would benefit gun owners by weeding out those who are unfit for gun ownership. No longer would responsible gun owners be lumped together with those who do not share their respect and care for others’ well-being. The vast majority of gun owners want universal background checks so as to minimize the likelihood that a gun falls into the wrong hands and sullies the good name of responsible gun owners. In addition, banning bump stocks, raising the legal age to purchase firearms to 21, and banning high-capacity magazines and assault rifles that are designed for the maximum killing of humans during a war would benefit gun owners while respecting their right to self-defense and sporting.

Healthcare

Our nation has been consumed by an inability to fix the healthcare crisis confronting the vast majority of us. It is not just a national issue, the effects of ever increasingly expensive healthcare costs affect us at a local level. We need to refocus our efforts on strategic solutions here in District 14 to provide affordable healthcare to all of our citizens. I will work with the healthcare industry and across the aisle to ensure that we develop strategic solutions to expand the availability of affordable health care to every deserving citizen.

Civil Rights

" To perpetuate the principles of free government, ensure justice to all, preserve peace, promote the interest and happiness of the citizen and of the family, and transmit to posterity the enjoyment of liberty, we the people of Georgia, relying upon the protection and guidance of Almighty God, do ordain and establish this Constitution. "

This is the foundation on which our great state of Georgia was founded on. The ideas of justice for all, peace and happiness for each citizen and their families that live and work in Georgia. All of which I believe should be true not only in our legislation but in our daily lives no matter the color of your skin or your sexual orientation. These are freedoms which not only the United States Constitution protects, but our state one as well. I will work each and every day to ensure that we pass legislation that protects freedoms for all, prohibits discrimination and ensure justice for each one of us.

Environment

As a candidate for Georgia State District 14, I understand that the environmental challenges we face as a nation/state/county effects economics, health, and justice, as well as the environment. I will promote sustainable alternative energy legislation while at the same time push for environmentally friendly legislation to protect our air, water, and land that will decrease mankind's carbon footprint upon the Earth.

Choice

There is no freedom more important than the freedom we have over our own bodies. Each person has the right to choose what they need, from medical care to family planning. Rachel will continue to work to make sure no legislation erodes people's personal freedom of choice and defunding the essential health care services and reproductive rights that women have come to rely on.
